Greetings from Corvallis, Oregon!

Corvallis is a small town located about 90 miles south of Vancouver. Corvallis is home to Oregon State University, the Beavers. Papa’s nephew Leo is currently attending OSU. Papa almost attended OSU himself, but instead chose to return close to family in California after separating from the Army back in the early nineties.

Our first stop in Corvallis was at the Indoor Winter Market. The market is located out at the Benton County Fairgrounds at Guerber Hall. It’s actually quite small and maybe had thirty vendors in all. Mumzies was still able to find some interesting gifts for the kids and a handmade stuffed elephant for Juliette Paige. Since it was nearing Valentine’s Day, there was a super tall cupid at the market.

After the Winter Market, we decided to try the hot pot at No. 1 Hot Pot. Mumzies was a bit apprehensive at first because the restaurant wasn’t setup quite like any of the other hot pot restaurants we’ve been to, but when the food came out it was exactly what she hoped it would be like.

Mumzies had the Malaysian style satay soup and Papa had the Chinese style Sichuan soup. If you’ve watched our video from Kalama, WA, then you know Papa really loves authentic Chinese food. No. 1’s Sichuan style hot pot was as authentic as you can get in the states. It was just like the soup he had enjoyed while in Chengdu (Sichuan Province), China.

With our bellies full of delicious hot pot, we set out to wander around Corvallis. We visited downtown Corvallis and also the Benton County Historical Museum. The museum was really nice and had some interesting items on display. The entire second floor of the museum was dedicated to crows. Mumzies loves crows and always has them prominently displayed as a part of her Halloween decor each fall. She really enjoyed the museum’s displays.

We had a very nice day in Corvallis, but then again we’ve always liked the town. The weather cooperated with us, and the lunch would have been worth the trip itself.

Best wishes,
